My husband and I drove two and a half hours to listen to Rhett Miller (of Old 97’s fame) play in Annapolis, MD, today. With an electric stage presence and a brilliant talent for writing lyrics, he deserves more from a culture that often favors glitzier or more sensational musicians. He’s a lunch pail rockstar who’s been showing up for “
Rhett Miller sounds like an incredible talent with a humble personality. I can't imagine how challenging it must be to listen to live music with neurodivergence, but it's inspiring to see someone like him still shine. 🎶 Excellent work!
just added "Too far to care" from the Old 97's to my endless apple music scroll as i have it blasting....great energy love small bar bands once saw NRBQ in intimate setting (their thing)
always preferred smaller venues but as you say acting out there by audience is always magnified (if dulled by own alcohol consumption)
different genre but once saw greg brown in a cramped hall one evening in late april northern vermont snow outside but the glow from the females present fairly overheated the place 😉🤣🫠
"I have a particular brand of neurodivergence that makes listening to live music challenging..." ooof. I'm right there with you. This piece brings to mind the term "collective effervescence." The first time I heard it I was struck by the way the term described that delicious energy we can feel when people come together, not just in space and time but in energy, and listen to music. What a lovely night you had!
We love you, Alexandra! You're so cool!
